I wanted to try to make a similar effect in Unreal.
From what I can tell, this has to require Mesh animation. Any suggestions for tutorials that can help me out with this, or give me a starting point
It depends on how you’d like the final result to look. If it was me, I would first try it out with simple sprites (a “fail quick” solution if it doesn’t look how you want). Squash and streatched at first, and then squared out towards the end with some rotation and alpha erosion. You could probably get pretty far with that, and then add in more to parts that may need some extra touch up, like if the initial fast bursting fire looks bad you could then take the time for a custom mesh with a scrolling texture, that then transitions into your sprites.
