Choosing the Right Engine for a Career in Real-Time VFX: Unity or Unreal?

Hey everyone! I’m currently trying to decide between Unity and Unreal Engine for learning real-time VFX, and I’m a bit confused. My main goal is to build a career in this field, so I want to choose the engine that gives me better job opportunities in the long run.

I know both engines are widely used, but I’m not sure which one is more in demand when it comes to real-time VFX roles in the industry. If anyone has experience or insights about which engine is better from a job or studio perspective, I’d really appreciate your advice. Thanks!

Hey

Choosing an engine is not an easy task, so I will give you some info that might be helpful:

First of all, what’s important is to look at different projects that you can choose from.

Unity: Majority are mobile and VRs
UE: Majority are PC and Console games

Both are great at VFX, but UE got a bit more resources to learn from, so probably it would be easier to start, though because of that I see more VFX Artists actually starting with UE and it makes it a bit more competitive on that field. (Also mobiles tend to pay more money) so Unity could be a better way if you are mainly willing to get into industry.

What’s nice tho is that they are quite similar, so if you ever want to hop in from one to another later in your carrier it’s not that hard  I did it myself
