Balancing Learning Priorities: Unreal Engine, Substance Designer, and Houdini

Since I have some downtime, I’ve decided to revisit a tutorial I started in 2021 but haven’t picked up since. It’s a great site, and I highly recommend it for anyone wanting to get into VFX in Unreal Engine, even though I’m somewhat of a veteran.

I’m thinking of redoing this course because I’ve played around with Substance Designer and have some understanding of Houdini. My question is, which tool should I focus on 100% right now? I’m definitely more interested in the Unreal side, but it’s beneficial to know Substance Designer and Houdini as well. Should I focus on all three simultaneously, or concentrate on one for now and then revisit the others later? The tutorials are well-designed and kind of work as a package, starting with one tool and then moving on to the others.

It all depends on what you need more: simulations/RBD/meshes or textures.
But if you want to learn both I would start with Substance Designer as it’s incredibly more easier and then jump into Houdini that is a black hole for time.
