VFX in Cryengine

Hi All

I’m an Environment Artist and im attempting to learn vfx for games. I’ve been using Cry for awhile now but have never attempted to do any VFX so I am a total newb at this. I’ve done some searching online and in the forums but I’m finding it very hard to find anything useful.

If possible could anyone point me in the right direction for getting started? I’m doing the below tutorial but I am not using UE4 so I’ve basically gone as far as I can in the tutorial. I have a texture atlas of smoke that I would like to bring into Cry for vfx.

Hey!

Check out ImbueFXs series on VFX in Cryengine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7eziwuIoukk
Not sure all of it is still valid since it’s a couple of years old but the concepts should be the same.

@bryan3d, do you use Cryengine V or the older 3.x version? Here at Cloud Imperium Games we’re using a (now heavily) modified iteration of Cryengine 3.x (actually Lumberyard now) but much of the common settings are still valid.

There are a few of us from CIG hanging around this awesome site, so I’m sure you’ll be able to get some handy tips if there’s anything in particular you want to know

If you’re on a 3.x branch of the engine, for sure the link @Partikel sent will be very handy (in fact I bought the ImbueFX series when I was first starting out with Cryengine). Also there’s a fair bit of documentation out there, just not a whole load of youtube vids:

Thanks @Snowy and @Partikel,

Those are some really helpful links!

As for @bryan3d - You’ll come to love VFX - it is a very engaging field and each project you work on is new and challenging and these guys from CIG definitely know their stuff as you can see in the VFX progress of the game.
