Hi everyone,
I’m currently trying to decide which engine I should seriously focus on as a realtime VFX artist — Unity or Unreal Engine.
My main goal is to build strong enough skills within around 1 year to have a realistic chance of getting remote work or a remote studio job. I know both engines are valuable in the industry, but I’m unsure which path is better to start with.
Would you recommend:
- Focusing deeply on one engine first?
- Learning both side-by-side from the beginning?
- Or becoming specialized in one before touching the other?
I’d also love to hear how industry artists usually approach this. Do most realtime VFX artists work in both stylized and realistic art styles depending on the project, or do they usually stay closer to their personal preference/style?
Right now my biggest confusion is:
If someone gives 1 year of serious focused practice, which engine currently gives a better chance for remote opportunities as a VFX artist?
Would really appreciate advice from people already working in the industry. Thanks!
