UE4 LitSmoke example

Could someone explain to me why the texture sample and the Particle subUV nodes are added together in the Lit smoke example in the Starter content in ue4?

I’m trying to adapt to do a few things i want it to do, but i dont have a clear understanding of how everything works.

Ignore, i now realise they are using another texture as a detail map to the smoke…
