Need help with rotating alpha for a "Time" Spell

Hello all! I’m trying to do a “Time” Spell where you have a sword rotate 360 degress on one axis and as it rotates, the outer part of the circle, the numerals become and stay visible. Then the inner part of the circle comes into view. My main problem is trying to get the outer part to stay visible after the mask has gone over parts of the circle. I’ve got a basic diagonal alpha and I have it rotating and I’ve tried lerping, subtracting etc, but to no avail. I thought I would try using blueprints, but would it be better to use sockets attached to the sword and animate it using Maya?

Below is the alpha, outer circle and a picture of the material editor and what it looks like. Thanks in advance!

I know that this tutorial is for Shader Forge, but the math is the same. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much! I didn’t realise it could be used in such a way!

Tom Looman has a tutorial for UE4.
