How would you create a dash effect compatible with volumetrics?

How would you create a dash effect for a game inspired by Zone Of The Enders, trying to take it in a stylized/NPR direction?

This is what I got for now:

Fast flying particles can give the false illusion of speed and so can line streaks…

So do you experts have any other original ideas? :wink:

I got some abstract ideas of some kind of distortion or directional blur, but it might get quite bugged?
