Where such realistic spritesheets are baked?

Hey artists, I’ve been coming across these extremely realistic and specific spritesheets in asset stores. I sometimes purchase them to study, just to realize it’s all baked in.

But what software do you think is being used for such specifc textures? Since doing it in Blender or Houdini and such would require some serious work - unless they’re from plug ins?

Any thoughts?

As you have guessed, it is very likely that these were made in a software like Houdini, Blender or LiquiGen. Some of these could even be made in Substance Designer.

And yes: these do require work and some time to set up. Even with better tooling, good looking assets take effort to create.

Here is one way to recreate the rising bubbles. In some simulation software, make a smoke sim with a puff of rising smoke, create a ton of particles and make them follow the velocities of the smoke, then build a mesh around these particles to render it out. Houdini would be your best bet since everything required is already there and can work together. Blender could probably do it also, as well as other programs but it would probably be more work.

I am 99% sure that the majority of this is live footage that they have shot and then edited heavily to have alpha channels etc into a flipbook. I have never seen bubble simulations that are this accurate.

This feels the most likely, because when I look at the textures, they are kinda low res, with this suspicious overcast

Others look cleaner but still, looks like it’s from some sort of a video

I think Liquigen is still quite limited with things like bubbles. Houdini and Blender are advanced but I think that’s what it would truly make it realistic. Thank you!
