UE4 Dumb Questions: Smart Answers

Hi there!
First time posting. A couple weeks in VFX-- This thread is created to get solutions for simple details that may get overlooked in the Unreal Engine.

My first dumb question: Why is the primitive plane blank in the viewport preview menu when making a material? All the other preview meshes work fine (sphere, cube, cylinder.) And is it possible to get rid of the light grey background (or change the background at all?)

Hey Welcome!

The primitive plane is not blank, just rotate around the viewport and you’ll see it. For some reason it defaults to the one side of the mesh and you don’t see it because your material is not two sided.

For the second question; you can open up the ‘Preview Scene Settings’ tab under windows and do a lot of things like change environment color, show floor, etc.
