I want to design a ‘laserbeam’ attack for a monster, which will be aimed at the player.
My first thought was to use a cilinder mesh as a base, however since the beam will be massive I fear that when the player gets hit he sees inside the beam/cilinder.
The second option I’m considering is just stretched quads, shape 4 of them in an x shape and use that as the base of the laser.
You can use simple cylinder and transparency based on distance (depth) to make it more transperent close to the camera. Actually you can make this effect using 2 sides inverted frensnel. In this case it can be transpanrent from the middle and opaque from sides.
Thanks for the reply! Currently I made a cylinder with a 2 sided material.
However im not quite fond of the look yet, so ill look into the things you recommended and see what looks best!
