Maya 2017 Bifrost Aero

Is anyone using Bifrost Aero fluids in Maya 2017? If so, how are you rendering them, now that Mental Ray is out and Arnold is in? I’m finding Arnold to be too slow for iteration. Is there a way to do a hardware render? I’m trying to generate frames for a sprite sheet.

I’m not using Bifrost but isn’t Mental Ray free to download for 2017?

Under system requirements says:
64-BIT SOFTWARE
Autodesk® Maya® 2016 or 2017

Hopefully it can help you out faster than Arnold mate.

“free during scene creation and single frame production rendering within Maya” No free rendering of complete sequences. Boo!

Actually, I just tried out a straight up playblast with a green background I can chroma key out, and I think it’s going to work out pretty well. I just need to figure out how to hide the bifrost manipulator without losing the entire simulation visibility.

Actually, I just figured it out! Show>Plugin Shapes and hide all else will give you just the bifrost results without the manipulator. Playblast on a green screen and you can easily extract. It’s also WAY faster than a render.

Glad it helped man. Are you planning to make a sprite sheet with that playblast in AE?

Yeah. I usually kick out 64 frames in AE, then put them together with GlueIt.
