Anyone have some insight to how these leaves were done?
I noticed those while playing the beta, they look really nice. Looks like mesh particles with lots of rotation on them. They do seem to have basic collision so they bounce on the ground but the physics seems to be quite simple. Their rotation/spinning doesn’t look like its affected by the collision at all. They are probably also using vector fields to get that nice curling/horizontal vortex type of motion.
Looks great, can stare at it all day long.
Jonas Andersson who made them isn’t on the forum as far as I know, but he replied to the same question in the facebook group:
“Hey all, The leafs are indeed GPU particles bouncing of the z-buffer but with some extra sauce added It’s part of Frostbites new effects system that we utilize for a lot of the effects in game and will hopefully be presented at GDC.”
