I found this incredible 3d model by LIFEvKIFE available for free on CGtrader.
I don’t know exactly what I will do with it, but I have sketched a few ideas. I really like the “biomechanical” vibes the model has, so I want to play that up in the VFX. I imagine this lootbox yields some kind of android egg.
On the rear there is a cavity where the box could receive power. First I thought key, but now I’m thinking some chunky cable plugs itself in all matrix-like.
On the sides there are rows of small vial shapes - I could see them being a series of liquid infusions to start the reaction.
Some sort of energy (maybe electricity) could flow down the tubes while steam pours from the vents and various parts of the box animate to unlock. Of course light will pour out as the box opens and reveals its treasure.
