How do I make this gradient

Hello good people of real-time VFX!

I am working on creating a boom from this reference, but wanted to see if anyone has any tips to give on how to achieve the gradient this image has from the yellow-orange at the bottom to black on top, something more interesting and accurate if possible than simply fading particles to black over their lifetime?

I think you could use a 2D-LUT like I described in my article: Fallout 4 – The Mushroom Case | Simon schreibt.

Another nice example are Zelda Like Explosions. Here is one which comes into mind:
