Explosions for a flight sim

Hey everyone! I’m solo developing a combat flight sim game and want to put explosion VFX into it. Normally, I’d just use a flipbook with motion vectors, but I’m concerned that the wide range of viewing angles (directly above, etc.) and high speed of the aircraft will make that look fake. I’m going to do some tests with cards and imposters but wanted to check in first for ideas.

Has anyone thought about this before or does anyone have any advice for something like this?

depends on the visual style you’re after and your source textures but typically an explosion like that won’t be a problem with billboarding a flipbook.

Maybe if you’d be flying around an extended explosion in a tight arc you would notice some weirdness but I think in typical gameplay it won’t be an issue.
