Daniele Guerini - The Lonesome Guild VFX

Hey folks :wave:
I’m Daniele, a real-time VFX artist.
I worked on The Lonesome Guild at Tiny Bull Studios, focusing mostly on stylized effects, sometimes subtle, sometimes weird.
I’ll be sharing some of the VFX I created for the project here over time.

Here are the VFX I made for the punk and sweet hearted RanTranTrum. He has a metal fist he uses to punch every enemy pretty hard.

This was my first experience as a real-time VFX artist, and I started the project as a junior. :sparkles:

It’s been a huge learning journey, we were only two VFX artists with the same level of experience, so there was a lot to handle, but also a lot of space to grow.
I owe a lot to the design and concept teams for helping me understand how to collaborate across departments and for sharing knowledge that really improved my work. :heart:

You can probably notice my progression through the different effects.
Unfortunately, I can’t show some of the ones I’m most proud of yet, since they’d spoil key parts of the game. :frowning:

I’ll be posting many more effects soon — from enemies to environments and a few bosses too I hope.

The last hero to show is Sarangalyn, a peculiar witch as you can tell :ninja::alembic:

With some of this VFX I’m not satisfied :frowning: but there was task to complete and others to start. Sometimes even the implementation worked against me :joy::smiling_face_with_tear:

For now our heroes deserved some rest.

This VFX are made for the rest spot fire :fire:
The first one is for the exploration and more UI like and second is more cozy and warm.

Some env VFX for Nunuit exploration.

In this videos I’ve made the light edge between the vertical sea and the sand.

Loving the concept of this salty, starry, magical sea :sparkles:

Here is some cute particle to have sand moved by the wind :beach_umbrella:

And this is the starry, salty fog that it’s more concentrated near the sea end the trees :ocean:

In this videos I’ve made the iridescent liquid shader, it is called Theutis blood, some foam vfx in the edges and some fog. Eunymonia is a dark and rainy town and I really love the concept.
