Hello,
I am new here, and my background is character art, however I would like to expand my skillets and also try create animated materials, animated textures and some character VFX as well.
If there is somewhere a dedicated tutorial I would appreciate a point or a link to it.
My focus is games, so final rendering Marmoset or Unreal 5. I work with both.
Here is the reference of the effect I am talking about: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/n059no
and here https://www.artstation.com/artwork/Wqn5y - those are not my works (examples)
As far as Im concerned it’s using a mesh. As character artist I was responsible to create a sculpt of the core effect, as I have done that in a studio, and due to time constraints and overwork I had no time to follow with VFX dept on how they made it.
I read it would require a flow texture, to move in the direction of the sculpt? But how to create it based on the sculpt itself, where do you bake flow map, and I supposed you can edit in PS, can you get flow map from high poly?
Im guessing I would need the core to have a separate UV set as well, in case I would need to animate in UE5 with some panner I am guessing?
So what are the steps to assemble it, is my question.
Any direction and advice is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
