I’ve had a few questions.

1. Is there any programs I should or shouldn’t use?

I think the safest Axiom here would be, if it helps you make the effect - use it!

What is a good first effect?

Make fire.

Is there anything I should avoid when starting? (Stuff like effects that are hard to make or can get frustrating to try and make)

Keeping it very simple… Mindgames. Don’t let the steepness bother you either. Day at a time. If you don’t understand what I mean yet, you will.

If you want to make VFX that are REALTIME, then yes. If you are here for Rendered VFX, than no.
