So I played around with Align to Direction, and it doesn’t quite have the functionality I’m talking about.
The biggest issue is that particles are no longer camera facing if they’re aligned with direction.
This is almost what I’m looking for:
But as soon as you look from the side then it falls apart:
What I’m looking for the particle’s up axis to align to it’s initial direction, but keep it camera facing, like stretched billboards. If there could be a checkbox when using stretched billboards to have it align with the initial velocity and stay in that alignment for the duration of it’s lifetime, it’d be perfect.
