Tobias Bostrom - progress work - VFX

Hi! My name is Tobias and I’m currently doing my final year of the Bachleor’s program in Game Development at Stockholms University.

I just finished off doing a game project with 9 other game-dev students as a part a course where I was the only VFX-Artist. I will be uploading my work on artstation during the upcoming weeks and i would really appriciate any feedback.

Here is another effect from the game, uploading to Artstation really takes some time to get used to.

Gif became quite choppy since the maximum file size is restricted to 4 mb…

As always, any feedback is welcomed.

Hi! Long time since I posted any progress here, been quite busy with life in general.

Anyways ,this fall I entered a Houdini course to get a better understanding of simulations and possibly be able to get a better understading of incorporating them into real-time game engines.

I’m going to start posting my work from whiteboxing to finnish from now on.

I did a breakdown of my latest assignemnt which was about RBD and Bullets solvers where the goal was to destroy a wall by an object such as a character. So I decided to put my own twist to it with a vine/ branch attack.

So for my next assignment in the Houdini course, we have a bit of freedom, so I have decided to learn about Vellum and Flip Solvers.

So the project that I will try to do is aspired by the anime show “That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime”, where I’m trying to recreate a slimeball that will jump over something a move a bit.

Here is the progress right now:

Created a simple shader just for visualization.

The bubbles are just made with pop solvers and smaller mesh that are inside the original one.

Added some eyes to the character.

I just drew the eyes with the drawcurve node and then just did a first iteration to the animation.

A little uppdate on the assignment.

Just added a trail that follow the blob:

No Shader:

So for the trail I used particle fluid that are using a squeezed mesh that follows the character.

I also added some grass using the grooming tool:

And this is how is looking right now:

So for the upcoming days, I will try to fix the trail so it looks a bit better, make the grass sway, add a road that the character is moving on. Adding some trees and enviromental stuff to make the scene a bit more alive.

As always, any feedback is welcomed!

Hello! Now the assignment is done and here is the final render.

As always, any feedback is welcomed.

Hello! I’ve decided to rework my portfolio projects after getting some really good feedback and the first one that I’m redoing is my fire-beam. I will share my progress over here and I hope to get some feedback from everyone:

First video is my first iteration of redoing the attack, focusing on adding anticipation.
Second video is me adding a character and animating it, also work in progress.

My third step will be to build up some type of scene that is more than just a character standing on a block.

Any feedback is welcomed! :slightly_smiling_face:
