TheVman: Sketch #66

Hey folks! Been a while since I joined in on one of these sketches, but I’ve never gotten a proper chance to work on air effects and this seemed like the perfect learning opportunity! (Not to mention I’ve had a long fascination with tornadoes and I’ve always wanted to try making one)

I still want to create a full sequence of it being summoned and disappearing, we’ll see how much I can fit in these last couple of weeks.

Here’s some of my reference

Glad you got that opportunity then!
Very impressed already  Rarely I see a stylized tornado that actually follows the shape fully of the realistic one, so really well done  Looking forward to seeing summoning of that beast!

Thank you! Yea one of my big inspirations were the super-cartoony cyclones in Wind Waker and I wanted to take those basic principals and push them even further. I updated the OP with a few examples of my reference.

Looks mighty fine!

I do wonder if it would feel better if you slowed down the rotation quite a bit.
If you look at real life sources, the actual rotation movement feels rather slow (partially due to the size of these darn things).

I was thinking about it, though part of me enjoys the intensity of the rotation. It’ll depend on how I pace the full sequence.

I do still want to refine the material a bit more, part of that would be to create a clearer gradient of the swirl slowing higher up in the funnel.
