Ruckus Games | Fully Remote | Stylized VFX Artist (Unreal)

We’re looking for a Senior VFX Artist with at least 5 years experience in game development and one shipped title. You will work closely with the Art, Design and Programming teams to help create VFX assets optimally while working closely with the Art Director’s visual look for the game. You will be spearheading the visual look of our VFX while working with outsource teams and associate artists to maintain a high visual standard. Our ideal candidate demonstrates both the artistic and technical sides of the art process, values teamwork, is autonomous, shows initiative and wants to work in a well-funded startup environment.

  • Collaborate with the art director to achieve a consistent art style in regards to VFX for characters, environments, Gameplay and UI
  • Closely works with designers to create compelling VFX for game play needs
  • Creates and integrates VFX assets into the game engine, from prototype to final in game assets
  • Mentors associate artists with best practices and personal creative growth
  • Can provide feedback to outsource teams to help support consistent quality and style of the VFX


  • Advanced knowledge of both 2d and 3d animation and how it relates to VFX
  • Organized, particularly with asset management
  • Knowledge of physics and natural phenomena
  • Advanced knowledge of the Unreal Engine
  • A solid understanding of both the technical and creative sides of the art process
  • Understanding of technical limitations with VFX and art creation pipelines
  • Ability to evaluate needs of the art team and handle outsource as needed
  • Photoshop and/or Substance experience for textures
  • Proven ability to work with art teams to deliver on the games artistic vision
  • Excellent skills in organization, communication and team collaboration
  • At least 5 years of experience as a VFX artist


  • Simulation software such as Houdini, Ember Gen, etc
  • Familiarity with 2D VFX software like After Effects, Toon Boom, etc
  • Experience with Modeling software and UV unwrapping
