Hello. My name is Konner, and I am an aspiring Vfx artist in Unreal Engine 5. I will be posting here to keep track of my progress and get valuable feedback and constructive criticism for my vfx. I will also post any tips and tricks I learn along the way to help others not struggle with the same problem. Hope I can become an important part of this community of like-minded individuals who share the same passions as myself, and I look forward to developing my skills alongside my fellow artists. This is my portal effect inspired by Doom, GOW 2018, and the Original Bionicle Heroes game, and Crash Bandicoot.

This effect was a challenge I gave myself to make a roguelite game style attack that utilized all the potential elements at once, and each particle had to be evenly spaced. This effect wasn’t without much struggle and hours and days of research and tutorials before I found out it could be achieved in a simple way. I ended up using Color Array Index and Normalized Position in the Shape Location in the Niagara emitter.
I had to make sure that a Particle Color node was attached to the Emissive output of my material for this to work. A key aspect of this multi-elemental effect was making each color felt unique as their respective element.
I want to give a huge thanks to @Jsanders, my classmate Mirian, and the amazing people on the Realtime VFX site.

During this effect I learned every way possible to use indexes to change all the blades’ colors at once, which is the opposite of what i wanted but was valuable to learn. Methods for this included Visibility Tags, to Toggling Array Indexes, to using multiple emitters,and even creating new parameters directly. O yeah, Even thought of using vertex painting to act as indexes. I tried endless combinations before getting my desired result.

The Top Right is the final solution, and I only needed to use one emitter with one renderer in the end.
