I had this sketch contest in the back of my mind this past two weeks while I was working on a new flipbook shader for work. I didn’t spend much time creating a campfire, specifically. But I had been playing with fire in embergen this month, so I’ve put together a small Unity scene today, the 31st of Jan.
The one interesting thing I found while doing this, was a dead simple way to create the “flickering” light.
I paired a point light to a single particle with an infinite lifetime. This particle has some random noise applied to it’s position, causing a bobbing, bouncing motion that creates nice shadows.
