Building a PC for VFX

I would like to build a PC for VFX. It will be used for Unity, Unreal, Houdini and more. My PC is good enought but I think that it woulb be great to upgrade some specs or building a new one next summer but.

My specs:

  • AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
  • Motherboard x570 aorus elite
  • 1 SSD and 2 HDD
  • 32GB RAM
  • RTX 3070

I would like to know what specs do you have or what would you change.

Hey!
Better than any of the PCs in my household and should be on par with what studios still have. So generally you should do fine for a while working with the mentioned programs.

Only thing I would say needs a boost is more RAM, 64GB is the minimum for (realistic) VFX / TechArt nowadays imo. But that is probably the easiest to upgrade down the line if you ever hit memory bottleneck.

So at the moment I will just upgrade my ram, and I think 128 or 256 GB could be the best option. Tanks a lot for your response!

Don’t go crazy with 256GB,

Currently, I am using
Ryzen 9 7900x
RTX 4080
64 GB of ram

I am working with Unreal and it’s pretty enough atm. If you don’t want to render movies with a ton of the effects, 64 or 128 would be more than enough. Avoid putting in 4x sticks because that will limit your memory clock speed.
