SLI - Multiple GPU Build Question for UE4


I’m researching into building multiple GPU machines for better render times in UE4 Studio and C4D, to create assets for real-time VFX. I’m looking at multiple Nvidia Titan x say 2 and then a lesser Nvidia, so 3 GPUs in total. I have come across all the talk about SLI and the importance of SLI compatibility - but then some threads talk about UE4 not really benefiting from SLI. SO I am a little confused.
